The 14th International Olympiad in Informatics took place
in Yong-In city, South Korea , with 227 contestants from more
than 80 countries. The IOI is one of the six International
Science Olympiads. The main goal of the IOI is to stimulate
interest in informatics (computing science) and information
technology, to bring together students from various countries
and to have them share scientific and cultural experiences.
The IOI is organized annually. Each participating country
typically sends a delegation of four students and two accompanying
adults. The students compete individually and try to maximize
their score by solving a set of informatics problems during
two days of competition.
After the good results achieved by the Sudanese team in the
first Arab/African Olympiad in Informatics, in which Mohamed
Mohi-Aldin won a bronze medal for the Sudanese team, Anwar
Dafa'allah, head of the Sudanese team in AOI and head of SudaDev
association, was invited to participate in the IOI as an official
supervisor, which is considered the first step in the establishment
of a Sudanese team that can participate in upcoming events.
Now, Sudan was granted a seat in the IOI, and became eligible
to participate in the next IOI , Wisconsin 2003.
The team is constituted of four members that should be under
the age of 20, the problems are a set of informatics problems,
that needs good skills in Mathematics and Programming langauages
( Pascal or C++). If you want to check some sample problems,
click
here, but be aware that these problems are a lot easier
than the IOI problems.
Now SudaDev is working on 2 domains, the first is to find
people who can participate in the next olympiad ( what would
mean he should be under 20 by summer 2003 ), and the other
is to prepare younger Sudanese ( probably 15-18 years ) who
have the passion toward Computing Sciences, to have a strong
team who can really compete in the upcoming competitions.
So now, if you are a Sudanese, under 20, skillful in mathematics
and programming languages (Check the sample problems), or
if you are under 18, and want to be a part of our plan of
the preparation for next events, please contact
us .
